Tailwheel Endorsement
Add Tailwheel Aircraft to Your Repertoire
A Tailwheel Endorsement is required for pilots who want to operate aircraft equipped with a tailwheel instead of a nosewheel. Tailwheel airplanes handle differently on takeoff, landing, and ground operations, requiring specialized training. There is no minimum FAA hour requirement, but the average time for a Tailwheel Endorsement is typically 5–10 hours of flight training, depending on the pilot’s proficiency. Your instructor will sign your logbook once you demonstrate the skills required to meet the Tailwheel Endorsement requirements.
